Students, families and staff,

Thank you all for being so understanding during this unprecedented time. In order to accommodate students that were absent this past Friday, the Auburn Career Center will be open tomorrow, March 16th, for those students only from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. tomorrow morning. The purpose of this hour is to allow students to pick up personal and academic items that will be needed while students are working from home. Those students can enter the north doors and remain in the cafeteria until escorted by school personnel.

If you have any questions, please call 440-357-7542 and leave a message for your teacher or on the general voice message system. We will return the call as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this challenging time together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian Bontempo, Superintendent

Students, families and staff,

As everyone knows, Governor DeWine has closed schools effective Tuesday, March 17 through April 3rd. The Auburn Career Center will be closed to students on Monday, March 16.

If you need to update your Infinite Campus contact information, please do that as soon as possible so that you can receive information as it is made available. If you need assistance, please contact Kelley Golinar at (440) 358-8015.

Auburn plans to have academic opportunities available starting on Wednesday March 18. The work will be communicated through Blackboard and Auburn GMail Accounts and your teachers will be available to answer questions through those platforms. Please stay current on your assignments.

Students that are on internships can still work. Auburn is not requiring that students work through this period that we are closed, and it will have no impact on the students grades. The decision to work is entirely between the employer, the student and family.

If you have questions, please call the Auburn main line. We will be checking messages but please be patient. We will respond as soon as possible.

Please understand that this situation can change, and we will continue to make the best decision possible based on the facts that we have available.

Dr. Brian Bontempo, Superintendent

Dear Auburn Career Center Students, Parents, and Staff,

The message below outlines how Auburn Career Center is addressing the operation of our school related to the global COVID-19 outbreak.  As you know, the safety of students and staff is our top priority.  My goal is to keep you informed on the latest information that we know from Lake County General Health District , Geauga Public Health, Ohio Department of Education, Governor Mike DeWine‘s office, The Ohio Department of Higher Education, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Ohio Department of Health and the Food and Drug Administration.

The Auburn Career Center leadership team has analyzed the current situation and is making the best decision possible given the facts available. We will analyze the facts and make decisions accordingly.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Superintendent of Public Instruction, Paolo DeMaria recommended that all K-12 schools continue to operate however; the Governor also recommended that school districts and parents be prepared for the possibility of potential closures in the future. We are following that recommendation and the staff has started to prepare a contingency plan if school is closed.

As a precaution, we are not going to offer any community customer service opportunities that bring community members into the building. We will also not host any non-student events such as open houses for businesses.  All of these restrictions will be in place from March 12th until March 30th.

We will continue to operate our usual day-to-day high school and adult student operations. This includes high school student visits to Auburn, student internships and clinicals, as well as any travel to competitions. We do recognize that other businesses, schools, or state associations may have establish other protocols and may cancel events. We will honor those and seek alternate solutions and experiences for our students.

The state competition for DECA has been cancelled by the Ohio Department of Education. There is currently an effort to find alternative competition experiences for students.  All other competitions are scheduled to continue at this point in time.

We are asking all families to update any Infinite Campus contact information that might have changed since registering at Auburn. If you have any changes, please use your Infinite Campus Portal and make those updates. If you need assistance, contact Kelley Golinar at 440.357.7542.  We want to be sure that you receive timely updates.

We continue to urge the best practices on handwashing and social distance. As a public school, we are committed to the continuity of academic operations as well as the health and safety of our students, staff, and community members. Please check your email regularly for updates. This is a rapidly evolving situation and we will immediately share updates as we make decisions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian Bontempo, Superintendent
